Visitor Information
First Unitarian Universalist Church of Springfield, MO, is a welcoming congregation. We are a community of many backgrounds and beliefs. We are curious and compassionate thinkers and doers.
You will find us at 2324 East Battlefield Road in Springfield, MO, between Glenstone and Lone Pine.
We offer opportunities for fellowship and worship for all ages:
INTERGENERATIONAL SUNDAY SERVICE: Our Sunday morning worship service is an inclusive, interactive service at 11 AM every Sunday. We draw wisdom from many different religious and nonreligious traditions and seek to support one another in our spiritual, intellectual, and ethical growth. All of our Sunday services are offered in a hybrid format, both on-site and on Zoom.
SEEKERS: An adult discussion group that considers a wide variety of topics of interest to Unitarian Universalists. This group meets in the library at 10 AM every Sunday.
SPIRIT IN PRACTICE: A course “created to help Unitarian Universalists develop regular disciplines, or practices, of the spirit – practices that help them connect with the sacred ground of their being, however they understand it.” The Spirit in Practice group meets every Sunday morning at 10 AM in the church basement.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION (RE) FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH: Our RE program is grounded in the UU 7 principles. We aim to promote social justice and responsibility, tolerance, identity, and spiritual growth. Children and adults are involved in a community in which they develop a spiritual sense of themselves, their connections to others, and their connections to the world. Children are invited to story time and crafts related to the Soul Matters theme of the month. Youth are invited to investigate world religions. All are welcome! RE activities start in the basement at 10 AM every Sunday morning.
What should I know about attending a First UU Sunday service?
We light a candle every service. The chalice symbolizes wisdom, knowledge, and spiritual insight. The flame rising from the chalice represents the light of illumination and understanding.
You’re welcome to dress in whatever makes you comfortable. Many of our attendees wear dress-casual, and others wear jeans and t-shirts; it’s really up to you. Children should wear clothing appropriate for crafts, snacks, and occasionally playing outside.
Our church is centrally heated and cooled. We do not have an elevator, but both floors of our building are accessible from grade-level entrances. Wheelchairs are available.
Our church is family-friendly, and children are welcome to attend the entire service. Our children’s program meets downstairs each Sunday, is fun for all ages, and full of enlightening activities. We have a staffed nursery and age-appropriate classes for children.
When you arrive, you will be cordially greeted, invited to fill out a guest card, and offered a name tag. Filling out the guest card will ensure that you are added to our newsletter mailing list.
You are invited to join us after services for coffee and conversation. Those attending online can visit with each other in Zoom breakout rooms.
