Message by Rev. Michelle Scott-Huffman

Our theme for January is Liberating Love. We can think of no
better example of liberating love than Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.,
whose legacy and inspiring wisdom will be honored on
tomorrow’s holiday. Our Opening Words are his:

“I am convinced that love is the most durable power in the
world. It is not an expression of impractical idealism, but of
practical realism.” (1957)

“Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without
power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love
implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is
love correcting everything that stands against love.”

And from his 1964 Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech:
“I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have
the final word in reality.”
