Freedom, Reason, Hope, and Courage: A Sampling of UU Heritage

By Rev. Michelle Scott-Huffman

Hear these words from Rev. Scott Tayler:

We gather as a house of stories,
as a shelter shot through with memories that speak,
that long for us to listen,
without which we easily lose our way.
As we learn of those who have gone before, the way in front of us becomes more clear.
As we remember what they survived, and what they sacrificed
for the faceless us who would come after, we find courage far beyond what we could muster on our own.
Beneath this seemingly worn-out world, there are wells from which we can drink. Come, let our thirst guide us there.
Come, let those sweet ghosts whisper their gifts.

Our final reading is With Passion and Faith by Pat Uribe-Lichty

Go out now with hearts and hands and minds renewed,
to the world that is waiting for you.
Go out to that world to bring your gentle touch to those in pain.
Go out to feed and house those in need.
Go out to speak truth to those with power.
Go out with courage to do the work which calls you.
Go out now, with your passion and faith,
to change the world.
